Community Guidelines

Operated by Northeast Iowa Main Streets LLC · morethancornmarket@gmail.com
More Than Corn Market is a community built on trust, respect, and a love of local food and craft. These guidelines keep the marketplace welcoming and safe for everyone: shoppers, vendors, market organizers, and visitors alike. They apply to everything you post or send here, including listings, photos, reviews, messages, the Rain or Shine feed, Lounge discussions, and event pages.
Our community
Treat these guidelines as the house rules that sit alongside our Terms of Service. If something here is unclear, ask us and we will explain it.
Be respectful
Treat every member of the community with kindness. No harassment, hate speech, discrimination, threats, or personal attacks in listings, messages, reviews, the Rain or Shine feed, the Vendor Lounge, or the Market Lounge.
Be honest
Represent your products and business accurately. Do not post misleading photos, false claims, or counterfeit goods. Describe condition and quantity honestly, and do not list something as available when it is not.
Reviews
Honest reviews help everyone find good local food and good local makers. Reviews must reflect a genuine experience, and vendors may not pay for or pressure customers to leave positive reviews. New reviews are reviewed by our team before they appear publicly. We may decline or remove a review that is abusive, off topic, or not a real experience.
Keep it local and legal
The marketplace is for Iowa-grown and Iowa-made goods. Everything you list must comply with local, state, and federal law, including food safety and labeling rules. No illegal products, scams, fraudulent activity, or adult content.
Respect privacy
Do not share another member's personal information, such as an address, phone number, or email, without their consent. Keep conversations on the site where possible, and respect the location setting a vendor has chosen for their profile.
Payments between members
Sales, preorders, stall fees, and booth fees happen directly between members. Pay only the amount you agreed, never send money to someone you have not verified, and be careful with anyone who asks you to move a conversation off the platform and pay by an unusual method.
Events and markets
- List events and market days accurately, including date, time, location, and admission.
- If you post that you are looking for vendors, keep the booth details and deadline up to date, and reply to everyone who applies.
- Vendors: answer an application honestly, and tell the organizer promptly if you have to withdraw.
- Organizers: treat applicants fairly, and do not use the vendor list to promote unrelated businesses.
Preorders and Save a Spot
A preorder is a request, and a Save a Spot signup is interest, not a commitment. Vendors, honor the windows you open and the pickup details you promise, and close a window when it fills. Shoppers, only sign up if you intend to follow through, and pay as the vendor asked.
No spam or solicitation
Do not use the marketplace to spam, mass-message, or promote unrelated businesses. The Vendor Lounge is a private space for paid vendor plans, and the Market Lounge is a private space for market organizers. Both are for genuine discussion, not advertising.
More Than Enough resources
The More Than Enough section connects Iowans with food pantries, meal programs, thrift stores, furniture banks, shelters, and other community-aid organizations. It also lets organizations post surplus goods, donation needs, and volunteer opportunities. A few extra guidelines apply there:
- Only claim or manage a listing for an organization you are genuinely authorized to represent.
- Keep hours, requirements, and contact details accurate, so nobody is sent to a closed or unprepared location.
- Surplus posts are for genuine excess that would otherwise go to waste, not for ongoing retail. Describe items honestly, including condition and quantity.
- Donation and volunteer needs should reflect real organizational needs. Close them once they are met so the list stays useful.
- Treat every inquiry and offer with respect, whether it comes from a neighbor, a volunteer, or another organization.
Reporting and enforcement
If you see something that breaks these guidelines, use the in-app report button on Rain or Shine posts and Lounge posts, or email morethancornmarket@gmail.com. We may remove content, hide a listing, suspend an account, or ban a user. Repeated or serious violations can lead to permanent removal.
Changes to these guidelines
We may update these guidelines as the community grows. When we do, we change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
